The project “European Academy Network. Encouraging democratic participation at EU level” (in short: EAN) was implemented in the years 2020-2022 thanks to the funding and support from the Europe for Citizens Programme. The project aimed to provide European local and regional policy makers, associations, and citizens with tools that will support their informed civic and political participation at the EU level.

Based on the testimonials of the participants, interim and final evaluation surveys, the EAN project managed to significantly increase citizens' understanding of the EU, raise awareness of the richness of the EU cultural environment, and to promote key European values such as pluralism and tolerance, facilitated by intercultural exchange, this way contributing to the development of a respectful and dynamic European identity. During the international meetings, partners shared best practices on exercising forms of engagement at local and EU levels with the focus on initiatives, tools, and programmes that the EU puts at the hand of local and regional authorities and CSOs across Europe to bring citizens together.

As a part of the evaluation, the project team referenced its outcomes to the "EU Citizenship Report 2020. Empowering citizens and protecting their rights" published by the European Commission:
